Lithuania has recently signed the Schengen agreements, and as a consequence of that, all controls at the borders have been cancelled. Citizens of any of the European countries can travel with a valid identity card, while a passport is required for citizens of non EU- countries

The official currency is Litas, corresponding to € 0,29. The introduction of Euro as official currency was supposed to take place in 2010, as part of the Schengen agreement which followed the entry of the European Union.
The official language is Lithuanian, which belongs to Indo-European idioms. German, English and Russian are widely spread, though the use of Russian is strongly opposed by the population for historic reasons related to the long occupation and the crimes perpetrated by the Soviet Union.
